Kirby William Brown was the grandson of William Bragdon who was one of the founders of California Faience in Berkeley in 1913. This low bowl was owned by Kirby and is featured in his book California Faience, Ceramics for Cottages and Castles on page 82. It is of a blended glaze in bright blue and yellow. California Faience is most famous for its tiles being used extensively by Julia Morgan for her design of Hearst Castle.

Excellent condition for its age with no damage beyond normal usage. There is yellow staining inside from water and few small glaze pops and scratches very evident in the photos. The rust colorization on the rim is from glaze skips and is intentional. Please see photos for exact condition.
