Catalina Clay Products was founded in 1927 by William Wrigley, Jr. (of bubble gum and baseball fame) in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island. Production stopped in 1937 when Gladding McBean bought the company and moved production to the mainland. "Island" pottery is highly coveted, especially pieces made with the local red clay from 1927 to 1931. This lovely scalloped bowl is quintessential Catalina Island with its rustic craftsmanship and silky glaze.
