Catalina Clay Products was founded in 1927 by William Wrigley, Jr. (of bubble gum and baseball fame) in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island. Production stopped in 1937 when Gladding McBean bought the company and moved production to the mainland. "Island" pottery is highly coveted, especially pieces made with the local red clay from 1927 to 1931. This amazing bulbous oil jar is made of the red clay and has exquisite glaze blending. It has an invisible professional repair to a chip that was on the base rim.
